Kapteenska – Country House

Kapteenska offers clothing, accessories and footwear for discerning women and men in the heart of Helsinki on the first floor of Kämp Galleria.

The main brands we sell have an interesting history, come see for yourself!

French Aigle (est. 1853) is Europe’s oldest rubber-boot factory and also has its own clothing line. Kapteenska introduced Barbour’s (est. 1896) world-famous oil-cloth jackets in Finland as early as the 1980’s. Elegant French knitwear-manufacturer Saint James began manufacturing Breton shirts on the banks of the Channel in 1889. Since then, Saint James’s striped shirt has been discovered by more than just other wave lovers. “That authentic sailor’s shirt” has been donned by bohemian artists and intellectuals, subcultures and fashion circles for decades. Other brands worthy of the story are, among others, Mat De Misaine, Pelle Pettersson, Magee and Weird Fish.

Kapteenska’s spirit can be summed up in a paraphrased version of a Malcolm Barbour quote: “The spirit of service can be likened to a reach for a handshake, a warm-spirited partnership and a genuine interest in every customer’s needs and wants.”
