ZAZIZE by Zanele Muholi opens at K1 on February 4!

Zanele Muholi is a LGBTQIA+ activist from South Africa and one of the most noted photographers of our time. Muholi has documented the lives of colored LGBTQIA+ people in South Africa and other parts of the world during the 21st century. ZAZIZE means “to make oneself known” or “to get information” in the isiZulu language. The LGBTQIA+ term refers to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, queers, transgender and intersex people.

The ZAZIZE exhibition features pieces from over two decades and also offers a view to Muholi’s self-images from different eras. The themes of the exhibition discuss hate crimes, racism, exoticism and politics regarding sexuality.

The exhibit is held at The Finnish Museum of Photography K1 from Feb 4 to May 29, 2022.
Mon–Fri at 11 am – 8 pm
Sat–Sun at 11 am – 6 pm

Desire, creativity and perishableness in the core of Desiren

The Desiren exhibit by Minni Havas is shown in the Garden Room, on the second floor of Kämp Galleria, from February 3 to February 26, 2022.

Minni is a Helsinki-based artist and a designer with a degree from fashion design. Her art work shows her interest in fashion, textiles and three-dimensional design.

The Desiren exhibit is a multilayered artistic entity of pieces that colorfully represent Minni’s relation to desire, creativity and perishableness. The art work has been inspired by the Vanitas paintings, martyrs and Latin-based phrases that describe life and death. Most of the pieces have been drawn with colored pencils or made out of textiles. This is her first private exhibit.

Minni has worked as an illustrator and a pattern designer as of 2008. Her clients include MM6 Maison Margiela, Finarte and Vimma among others, and her work has been included in several international fashion shows.

This exhibit is sponsored by the Arts Promotion Center Finland and the Finnish Illustration Association.

Exhibit is open in Garden Room from Feb 3 to Feb 26, 2022.
Wed–Fri at 12 pm – 6 pm
